right-click "my computer" on your desktop, then click "properties" on the menu that pops up....then click the "advanced" tab....then click the "settings" button beneath where it says "startup and recovery"....then, beneath where it says "system failure", click to take the check mark away beside where it says "automatically restart".
do all that, and the next time your computer has trouble, it should give an error message instead of just rebooting.....write down that error message and post it here....that might give some better clue to someone more clever than me as to what might be wrong. :p

It's funny and creepy, in the same time. Efficient, but how long will it take for people to know where the cameras are and do their stuff without being watched ?

I think the US/UK current alliance has something to do with all this. Camera's are everywhere, even in places where you would never expect them. But do expect outdoor 'listening devices' to follow in the near future, if not there alreay. These technological innovations are way out of proportion, as if the alliance has gone 'overboard paranoia' if you will. Fear tactics are now readliy and easily used, even in so called democracies, and further advanced technology will only enhance this. We are all living in George Orwell's 1984. The Soviets used Fear Tactics called Confuse and Control back during the ColdWar.........Guess who uses them now? And yes, as for the 'shadowy departments' who operate all of this, they deem themselves beyond reproach, so they can never be approached.

I think the good that the technology provides in aiding to catch criminals etc far outways the negative aspect that it may mean an individual loses a little bit of their privacy.

If some nameless individual in a shadowy department of the authorities gets excited by watching me walk to the pub and stagger back home again or gets excited that I drive my car to work and back home again then his life is even sadder than mine.

Just as long as they don't start monitoring my surfing habits I am happy :P (Yes I know that they already get recorded in some form).

Just watched a movie that was quite a rebuff of the current fear mongering and could also be taken tomean Soviet Russia and even Nazi Germany. Very scary stuff. The movie is "V for Vendetta".

It is not just the use of cameras.
Cameras are everywhere. On the streets, on the roads and in most offices and shops. Unless you live in the remote highlands of Scotland or West Wales you will be caught on camera many many times in any single short trip.. but then even in the remote areas, you never really know who is watching from the sky and the real capability of those satellites.

Going back to the 60's the government monitored EVERY and ALL communications out of the country. Phone, Fax etc through GCHQ in Cheltenham. In the 80's British telecom upgraded most of the phone exchanges to "system X" that had the capability to tap ANYONES phone line electronically through software rather than through manual intervention.

Today, all communications goes through government monitoring software, whether it is phone, fax, email, internet surfing. In addition in the late 90's as well as "speed" cameras, the "traffic" camera was introduced. These are placed every few miles on all major roads (blue in colour) and on most road bridges. These monitors the road traffic conditions but additionally has the capability of scanning every cars number plate and recording every drivers face (even in the dark)

Add this together with various government departments existing citizen tracking, though tax, council tax, bank account tracking, cash withdrawal cameras, credit card usage as well as phone, mobile phone and ISP obligatory data loggings..

For those who are not caught in all this soon will be, with the obligatory carrying of ID cards with fingerprint, Iris and future DNA data.

btw.. if you innocently allow your fingerprints to be given to the police to assist ie with Hertz when you hire a car from them or as an innocence elimination process. Your prints are kept on police comparison files and not deleted afterwards..

On the plus side, the current use of UK cameras in most cases is to act as a deterrent to speeding, to crime and obviously used to detect crime after the event.. BUT.. Tomorrow??

Today, like in the African savannas, the good citizen's best protection from predators is being anonymous as part of a large crowd but the government are building an infrastructure to pick off not just the few stragglers but any and all they choose. The whole herd if they want.

A few database clicks and a long list of Jews. Another, searching supermarket sales of Kosher food using a stores points card or bank card will list sympathisers. Another click on who accessed a Jewish website etc etc. This is TODAYS capability.

Soon new laws for real time vehicle ID tracking with built in GPS senders, ID cards/passports with RFI emitters, the authorities will know who everyone is and where everyone physically is at any and all times.. a frightening prospect!

While I agree that a database would have made it easier for the Nazis to identify Jewish people history has shown us that, unfortunately, they managed to achieve this very effectively without a database.

You could also turn your argument around and say that had todays technology been around at the time of the Nazis the full horrors of what was actually going on would have been much more easily available for all the world to see.

I am still of the opinion that if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.

And with all due respect INYF, please do remember a quote from history; "Power Corrupts, and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely." Shadowy Types don't need armbands anymore, all they use now are identification nameplates, and these can be removed whenever they come out of their shadows.

But who, Mr. Anonymous, determines what makes a person "an enemy of the state". What you deem as a seemingly innocent event or a harmless guilty pleasure might be considered, by those who wish to have complete and absolute control over it's citizens, as a dangerous and intolerable act? For example, what if the powers that be deemed that... regardless of the content of the message... making an Anonymous post in a public forum was an attempt to circumvent public safety tracking measures put in place by the government to protect it's citizens, thereby making that person a threat and an enemy of the state which was punishable by life imprisonment or even death? Your little post could have resulted in your house being stormed by heavily armed government security forces in the middle of the night to place you under arrest and transport you to a state correctional facility where you could be... held indefinitely without a right to legal council, interrogated, and even tortured... while the powers that be determined your fate. What if the government also had the power to seize all of your assets, your house and to charge any family members or residents living in that house as sympathesizers or accomplices in crime, and therefore also enemies of the state worthy of the same fate as you? An extreme example, maybe, but not impossible. Just watching the news and hearing what some leaders are doing or secretly trying to do to their citizens makes you wonder how many of the their countries inmates are actual criminals or just citizens who opinions or views, the leader feels, pose a threat to their ability to have complete and absolute control. Putin is a perfect example of that.

Maybe it is bacause I am such a paragon of virtue that I have never encountered any of these shadowy types. With or without their nameplates. :D

It's an excellent point BTB. And after hearing your true story, It reminded me of a similar true story that occured in the city in which I live in the states. Yes, nowadays, and I'm certainly not talking about 10 or 20 or more years ago.......It's fair to say that if one is suspected of something, just by a 'knock on the door,' then one is presumed GUILTY of doing whatever.......Even if one is completely innocent, "nowadays" one must prove one's INNOCENCE, and even then, if one is cleared of all charges, their name still goes on a permanent list-data base...........So "that knock on the door" could still come back to haunt one, all over again, simply by being retained in the computer files of certain authorities. In the US, certain states still have the death penalty for capital crimes, and sadly, innocent people have been wrongfully executed. To execute an innocent person, is the ultimate crime!

just saw the trailer V for Vendetta, and was intersting to find out that it was made by the same producers of TheMatrix........If anyone has seen The Matrix, it has overtones to the world becoming an enevitable police state..........but instead of being "overtly oppressive" the Authorities (government) make it appear as though civil society is content with itself, and docile, just as long as all of the citizens fall in line with the governmental propaganda. Of course it is illegal to even question the 'powers at be.' Another good movie on a similar parallel is RED CELL. Although made a few years ago, it gives an excellent inside view of a country that is still a dictatorship, but claims to be a free market economy.

For those techs out there that know about signal processing and other forms of math for that,
you can probably guess its quite high, even at a
distance of several miles in orbit.

As for your phone, well, we know that information
is stored on it, and if you donate it to someplace,
they can get that information off of it.

You take your computer into the repair place, you
basically give them freedom to go snooping into
what you have on it, files, movies, etc etc.
If they deem that theres something that is,
suspicious or strange, guess what, youre reported.
They either call the authorities, or put some spyware
into it to keep an eye on you and your activities.

So, welcome to this wonderful planet kids.
Your rights are being trampled and ignored.
You have less each day that passes.
