There is the genuine official Door Opening Day. - There is the dry-run day when people could access the site, had they known the address. - There is the beta-test day. - There is the day they first signed on.

I once discovered a way to drill back in the forums pages to the first page ever posted. It was in early Summer of 2000. The first few posts were obviously interrnal test pages, but there were shortly other pages from "customers."

It was interesting, because it was obvious that before the official launch in November, the videos were free. There was no precise reference to the content of the videos so I don't know if they were sexual or not, but cc was accessible long before its official day.

Please note that cc is "celebrating" its birthday on 17 November. This is not the same as saying "we went online on 17 November 2000.

in that case cc must be one of the oldest sites of its type? right?

There are major drawback to the iPhone which makes it highly undesirable for anyone who wants to use the phone to do what they want to do with it and not just by a glorified iPod. For me the major kicker is the DRM handicap and the fact you cannot install 3rd party programs or applications onto it. Makes it worthless to do anything but feed the apple iTune music and movie empire.

But don't be held to my biased views, everyone knows I am a techy sort of guy and so what appeals to me will not appeal to other people.
But this is quite a fair and balanced pros and cons look at the iPhone I liked.

Nothing at all. Just it is very sad fact that most people are very clueless consumers.

Ok let me give you an example. I live in the UK and we have a mobile phone provider called 3 here. About a year or so they started doing a promotion to encourage more people to make video calls. The tag line was

"Now you can make video calls for the same cost as normal calls. So why wait!"?

I think previously video called were something like 20p and normal calls 10p so it meant you could make a video call for 10p. Same as a normal call.

I heard so many people exclaim "Wow , that is so fantastic, now I can make video calls so much cheaper, what a great deal"

completely missing the point that if 3 were able to sell you video calls for the same price as voice calls doesn't that mean they were charging you _TOO_MUCH_ for voice calls in the FIRST PLACE?!

It is the same with the great text rip off. Who here genuinely believes it actually costs anything LIKE the 10p standard they charge you to send a txt message? No come on really. No one can be that naive surely? Talk about being so blatantly ripped off it is criminal.

So no, I am afraid when it comes to consumer electronics and to mobile phone users in particular, certainly for the UK, I do not think they are particularly awake, tuned in or switched on. If they were, then the mobile phone network cartel would not exist and we would have genuine competition promoting genuine savings to the customer. But instead we are raising a bunch of moribund thinking teenagers who actually think that is the way it is supposed to be. When was the last time you compained to the mobile phone co, that you were being unfairly charged? Hmm?

Of course you may well prove to be the exception to the rule, but you will forgive me if I direct my comments to the other billion and one consumers out there who buy products and services without actually thinking how much it is costing them.

THEY are the "cud-munching drones" I am talking about. And if you can excuse yourself from that list than feel free. Else my point still stands.

The iPhone is just another one of those overpriced-trendy-not-that-useful gadgets that rampant capitalism brings us.
People who spend loads of money on a gadget are the zombies of this world - compulsive buyers who feel satisfaction through the social status it delivers. It does not deliver any other feature cheaper/better products already on the market give you.
And ANYONE willing to wait hours/days to buy a piece of plastic is just degrading himself to sub-human levels.

Malchik i was vegan for 18 yrs, so I should be ok in your book. Also I am not a zombie materialist, BUT i do own an IPHONE and I didn't wait in line, TNT, since you don't actually OWN an IPHONE your opinion on it in inhertly limited (obviously to what others say). You are mistaken about its abilities to handle software, it will, but just those that APPLE says are ok. By the way thats the nature of business, of course they (Apple) wants to maximize their own market. My opinion is it's the best smart-phone device I have used, and its even better now that they dropped to price.

Yes I can agree to disagree on that. I never said my opinion would cover others point of view. I am quite sure it is the best smartphone you have ever owned. But I am also quite sure that it is not the best smartphone you can ever own. Don't under-estimate the usefulness of opening up both the hardware and software for open development. It goes way beyond just customising the look and feel of a device.

I shan't go into the potential applications of what a genuine smartphone should be capable of because there really are far too many to list. But I am happy you are happy with your phone, and I am sure you are over-joyed you did not have to pay the $200 mark up Apple charged previously (remember if they can afford it to you at a lower price it means you were being charged too much in the first place). Apple are trying to snatch a stake in the market but I genuinely feel they are going to get ham-strung in that effort because they had a very tunnel vision approach to it's roll out.

Anyway, I don't anyone really wants to hear my take on it, plenty of talks about it on the internet. Just look for iphone mistake and iphone hacked to find out more.

I was asked what I thought about the iphone and that's it. I'm waiting for a proper smartphone to do my work with.

New technology is always at its highest price point when it first comes up, then the price drops like a rock. But companies that put these kinds of things up for sale capitalize on the immaturity and impatience of some of the buying public to make huge profilts.

I have heard that said many times in various ways, but it unfortunately it is less of a truth and more of an excuse for materialistic people to justify their lifestyle. Sort of like their battle cry. LOL.

To be objective, what a person is happy with depends greatly on their outlook on life and what their definition of success is. You must also realize that people (in general) due to their own definitions of success tend to focus more on one particular area of their life whether it be their career, their love life, their family or whatever and be less concerned with or neglectful of the other areas in their lives. We see the proof of it all the time.... the actor/actress that makes several great blockbuster movies but is constantly in the tabloids over another failed marriage/relationship... the musician/music group that sells millions of albums but is in and out of rehab all the time for drug/alcohol abuse. Those are just a few examples... the type of big "news" stories we normally hear about. There are thousands of "successful" business men and women that toil away at their careers and have accumulated great fortunes but have neglected their families, have chaotic personal lives, etc. that we don't hear about in the media. Just as there are thousands of people in this world who have little or nothing in the form of material wealth and possessions, but who have incredible marriages/romances, that are adored and cherished by a large circle of friends and have deep and meaningful relationships with family... who are happy with what they have and feel they have a successful life.

That all said we rarely meet/know people that have it together in every area of their life.

Yes, happy people are not those who get what they love, but those who love what they got.

Sorry I'm not going to give just a yes or a no answer as I don't believe that conveys the whole story.

I am not in a relationship at the moment and sometimes I regret that and other times I am really thankful. But I would like to think that if I was in a happy relationship I would respect and like her so much that visiting sites like this would be the last thing I would want to do. Unless of course she was a pervert like me and we could visit together. :P

As for my life I am very happy with it whether or not it includes a partner.

No i`m in no relationship. Haven`t been in one for many years. 9 i think or it it 10 this Novemeber.. hmmmmm
Anyway the answer is NO. And i`m happy to be single, cos i`m paying off my debt and having a gf i would need money to take her out etc etc.. So its better for me and the girl. when i get my debts paid off then maybe i`ll look for a relationship..
