You have no idea how much sadness this is caused me...

I can only imagine the amount of pain from all the others who had a loved one in that club...

Now I have my own Perm angel living in my heart and soul...

My heart is with you. I hope that somehow you will find a way to deal with your loss so that you may find a way to be happy once again.

I will not offer you any magic words. I will not offer you the usual "she/he is in a better place" type of remarks. I will simply say that as one that has lost someone close to him, things do get better in time. There is a black cloud out there for awhile that makes it difficult to feel true joy, but the cloud will become smaller in time, the times you cry will be further apart, and one day you will be able to look past the cloud, see the sun, and smile when you think of the happy times you had with the person you lost. None of this means that things will ever be the same, but not being the same does not also necessarily mean that things cannot be equally as good.

I am sure that it is especially difficult since the holidays are upon us, but I hope that your love for this person will somehow bring you some comfort and peace this holiday season. May the new year be a happier one for you.

I leave not too far from the US state of Rhode Island. A few years ago a nightclub burned to the ground because of pyrotechnics and over a hundred were killed. Rolling Stone magazine did a series of articles on the tragedy then and continues to run updates on the survivors and familes of the deceased. The only bright spot is that Rhodes Island now has some of the toughest laws about clubs in the country. Argentina went through a similar tragedy when a club in the Once district of Buenos Aires caught fire a few years ago. Same thing...the mayor was driven out of office and now BA has very strict laws. The people in Perm who dies need not die in vain if it results in tougher fire laws that ban pyrotechnics and improves emergency lighting, ventilation and more and larger exit doors. It is sad it takes human life lost to make people wake up. This is the third tragedy like this we had in the past few years. How many more have to die before the world says...never again.

Russia had many other fires in clubs in the past years... but this was the most dreadfull of them, YES, lets hope they LEARN. That we all LEARN!

It is amazing that people must die or there must be some other type of tragedy for laws and policies to change when certain hazards are clearly forseeable, and sometimes not even that is enough. The stupidity of some people is beyond my comprehension, and often safety is neglected all in the name of money or some other goal which is probably less important than the protection of lives. In this case, it is my understanding that the owners were aware of the risk and went ahead anyway with the fireworks. Simply saying the words "fireworks" or "pyrotechnics" and "indoors" should be enough to make someone think twice, but apparently having a nice celebration was more important to these irresponsible individuals than the safety of their customers. Fortunately, the Russian government seems to be on top of this one. I don't think those responsible are gong to get away with anything and hopefully the government, if it doesn't already, will have some type of policy regulating such activities and a program for regular safety inspections of such establishments.

I haven't heard a thing from ImCapricious since the fire. I have been so worried for her. Any news about her anyone know?

Many of the chat hosts raise their prices during the contests.
Then they beg their viewers to help them.
It is best to stay away.

It is the hosts that cause the problem at contest time and make members stay away with all due respect. If hosts just acted normally and acted like contests were no big deal instead of allowing the lure of prize money to make them go crazy, members would be more likely to stay. And the worst tend to be hosts that are very popular.

It isn't just raising prices. Not many hosts actually do that, but a few of the popular ones do. It is the attitude of hosts. During contest time, hosts define friendship by the amount of money a member spends with them. Also, especially in a contest like this one where you can see the top 50 point getters, they look to see if a member's name is on the list and get very angry if they feel that he did not play with them what they consider to have been enough. Members do cause themselves problems by telling hosts they won't play and then play anyway and the hosts sees the points or that the member won, but a member should be free to spend his money as he wants. Last time I checked, it is HIS money, but he ends up needing to lie to a host because she pressures him to play and he rather see another host for whatever reason.

This si not all down to the hosts. There are some competitve members who want to win themselves and also want to see their favorite host on the winners list. They sometimes ask the hosts to set a higher rate than usual. You cannot blame hosts for agreeing to do this.

i keep wondering myself ever since the last contest what does it take to meet such a member??? or maybe i do everything wrong for treating my guests too friendly and they forget this is my work, and they go to spend the money with other hosts?it was just stresfull and dissapointing to spend a lot of hours online and i actually made very little money, while many hosts were making thousands.I am not greedy, but i am competitive and it "kills" me for not having a chance to participate in those competitions cause i dont have with who. Sorry for bragging, i just had to:)good luck!

I definitely don't blame hosts for making a higher price for members that ask for this, but for guys that just want a normal show or a normal conversation at the regular price, contest time is not a time to be on CC, at least with the host raising her price. And that was the issue here. The host said members should just act normally and not run away, but you cannot do that as a member if the prices of your favorites are higher than normal or if the host wants you to keep guessing letters so she can get points instead of giving a show when you personally couldn't care less and just want the show.

In terms of members wanting to help their favorites win, that doesn't affect other members other than maybe making it so their favorite is busy. A fellow member's competitive attitude never affects me in any other way since I don't interact with him. It is the HOST that I interact with so it is HER attitude that affects me, and that attitude is part of the reason members will stay away. And I can always wait for the host to lower her price after the member that requested the higher price to leave, but usually the price is raised for the duration of the contest so once again, it makes some members want to stay away.

The bottom line is that hosts often do not act normally during the contest so members cannot act normally either. The only hosts that act normally are the less popular ones who see business go way down at contest time and are thankful that someone finally entered their video so perhaps the answer is to check out some fresh new faces instead of seeing one's usual favorites.

I've NEVER defined friendship with a host by how much she shows me. In fact, with those that I consider friends, I don't usually have them show me anything since it just isn't what friends typically do and it can be uncomfortable sometimes if the relationship has reached a true friendship although there can be times we play anyway. I would only define a good host in terms of my being just a member by the type of show she gives me, not a friend.

In terms of other things she does for me, I guess you are referring to talking on the phone, sending sms, chatting on yahoo, giving cam on yahoo, or giving free or reduced price shows. It really depends on the nature of the relationship and the individuals' feelings to determine what is right. I don't think that there is a set rule here. Some friends give me cam for free all the time, and I almost never visit them, and others will do it very rarely, but I consider them friends nevertheless. But once it becomes a situation where someone feels "Well, we talk on yahoo and sometimes I give you my cam so now I expect you to visit me during the contest," I think that the relationship is more of a business relationship than a friendship. I think there are many ways to show one's friendship other than money, but if it is a "bottom line" relationship, it really isn't a friendship... It is simply a very friendly host-member relationship.

I believe the first two were from the same studio in Hungary so maybe there is an issue there. I am unfamiliar with the other hosts.

The first two were a good value although they did have people typing for them which kind of takes away from things.

I believe that the major source of global warming is a normal environmental cycle in which overall temperatures grow warmer. Thank you obikogkenobi for the grade six science lesson. One thing though, the scientists that support global climate change theories have better than grade six education. Most of them have PhDs and most of those (97%) agree that global warming is a measured phenomenon. We are the stewards of this Earth and we owe it to our kids and to future generations to pay attention to what our scientists tell us. We don't get to use a few hacked emails, the words of a very few dissenters, or nonsensical global conspiracy theories to ignore scientists just because they tell us something we don't want to believe.

Scientists have identified a long-term warming trend spanning several decades that is independent from the normal climate variability.

So it can be seen man-made carbon dioxide (CO2) is not the source of climate change there, something else must be happening. . . . .
3. Many organizations who are global warming profiteers get their 'false' facts from the notorious University of East Anglia's Climactic Research Unit (CRU). They are just one such organization (how many more are shredding evidence now?) caught 'cooking' the numbers to fit their profitable chicken-little 'the sky is falling' scheme. How dare they continue to call themselves "scientists" whom t seems to put on a pedestal & feel are beyong reproach by non-scientists.

Obi, I find it disappointing. Scientists are human beings and human beings don't always live up to expectations. It doesn't disprove the theory though, it just shows that a few scientists MAY have become too wrapped up in the debate. We'll have wait to see what the investigation comes up with.

The amount of CO2 from volcanoes doesn't even come close to what man produces. The sum total of all CO2 out-gassed by active volcanoes amounts to about 1/150th of anthropogenic emissions. Or, put another way, man's activities out produce volcanoes by a factor of 150 to 1.

Jimb33, you are talking about volcanic activity over a period of billions of years. On an annual basis, we have volcanoes beat hands down. The termite argument was debunked years ago as a smokescreen. Those CO2 emissions are already in the natural cycle and don't change the atmospheric balance of CO2. Same with wetlands. Man's activities release carbon from sources that were stashed away by nature for eons so they alter the natural balance of CO2.

I do listen to scientist, and I am one. But just like in many other fields, sometimes the voices that are heard are not the ones with the right ideas, but the ones with the popular ones.

Richard Linden is an atmospheric physicist and professor of meteorology at MIT, is a member of the national academy of Sciences and believe that humans are not responsible for global warming, yet nobody listens to his explanations because he does not agree with the political status quot. .

Dr Tim Ball is a Canadian Climatologist who disagrees with global warming and has become ostracized for those opinions, not because he has bad data or reputation, but simply because he does not agree with the conclusions supported by the current political powers.

Also consensus does not equal fact. If that is true we should be in an ice age now because in 1976 the consensus of the climate community was that the earth was cooling. The global temperature graphs then showed plummeting temperatures and the trend would have us frozen over by now. Funny how taking the same data we are now facing extreme temperature rise, because as it is plotted now there never was a lowering of temperatures between 1940 and 1980 as it was shown to be happening then.

In every field of science there are scientist who are serious about their work, and there are those who only want to be the center of attention, sadly those are the ones most people listen to.

I am all for reducing pollution because it is healthy for us. Being more efficient is a great idea because for one fossil fuels are limited and being efficient saves money. Solar energy would be a good idea, but just producing solar panels generates a huge amount of toxic pollution. Solar and wind energy are also not terribly reliable. Honestly the least polluting form of energy is nuclear, but people are so afraid of it that it may never become popular. It is good to save energy, I even dry my cloths outside as often as I can when I do laundry just to save energy. But when the government wants to tax me because if ideas based on assumptions that are not sound, and many experts disagree with( there are more expert scientist that disagree than will ever be told in the media) I really don't like it. Listening to scientist about global warming is good, but make sure you are listening to those with an unbiased opinion. As Dr Lindzen from MIT said about the debate "the consensus was reached before the research had even begun." That is not proper scientific methodology, yet since it is in line with what the politician want, it is what gets promoted.

Though man cannot possibly be the most prevalent controller of global climate change there's nothing wrong with minimizing our influence. Of course that means preventing the developing nations from jumping on the "my turn to pollute" bandwagon. Pollution is pollution. The developing nations should leapfrog the First World nations and jump ahead with wind/solar/tidal/geo-thermal in addition to developing cleaner ways to use fossil fuels.

2. Whatever comes of climate change talks I think you should look at the bigger picture .........
- Hopefully cutting down rain forests will be checked and hopefully reversed
- The air will be cleaner so our kids will not be as prone to illness or be asthmatic
- We will not carry on hurtling to a point where there is no oil or gas left and i for one want alternative to arab and russian oil and gas
- There will be a greener , healther world in which to bring our children up

That evidence doesn't exist. Also the total contribution of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere on a yearly basis by human activity is about 3% of the total CO2 entering the atmosphere. If humans cut their CO2 emissions in half then the total amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere would only drop 1.5% approximately. Of course what isn't told about greenhouse gasses is that CO2 is only a minor greenhouse gas, the major greenhouse gas is actually Water vapor.

A few years ago the big prediction was that as humans caused the earth to warm, hurricanes would become more frequent and stronger, yet for the last two years both the number and intensity have dropped. The latest NASA data also shows increasing ice caps, though most media outlets talk about the melting ice caps if you look carefully at their data it is from 2007 and earlier. Also when you look carefully at the global temperature data you will find that for different time periods there are different ways of measuring the temperatures ( a few different ways even in the last 20 years). While this doesn't turn into an Apples to Oranges comparison, it does become a red apple to yellow apple type comparison. Think of it like this, if you measure a rock with a yardstick and find it to be 1 inch in diameter, then measure it with a vernier caliper and find it to be 1.05 inches in diameter, did the rock become bigger? No, it is the same size but because your ability to measure has become more accurate you now see a more accurate measurement. The change in global temperatures over the last few hundred years is not in degrees or tens of degrees, but in hundredths to tenths of degrees( depending on who's data you look at). How accurate was a thermometer made in 1800 compared to the ones we have today? Were they calibrated to the same standard? How do temperature measurements made on the ground compare to measurements made from a satellite? What bias is there between a temperature monitoring station placed in an open field and one placed beside an asphalt parking lot? Are the number of data points used to calculate the average the same today as they were in the 1800's or even as recent as 20 years ago?

When you look closely at the data you will find it is a mixture of types of measurements from different time periods and with so much variability you can not say for sure that there is a real rise in temperatures or if is is just a difference in how it was measured.

I am not a climatologist, but I am a chemist and I do know how to look at data and evaluate its relevance to the overall project, and I have seen both good and bad data sets for and against global warming. In the work I do most of what I have seen would be rejected because of the different accuracies of measurement and non traceability of calibration data and many other things. So even if the planet is warming ever so slightly, the total fear mongering that has been going on is completely unwarranted.

Like anything in this world this ball started rolling down the hill and has been gathering pace up to where it is now ...... My view is this , for centuries man has driven himself to the rules of an economic model .......... businness , profit , growth etc. with little regard for the planet we all inhabit . The environment has always been of low polictical importance , its not a vote winner . Population growth and continued industrialisation and growth puts a greater strain on all resources and the planet . If the scare mongering of climate change leads to a significant shift in thinking toward the planet and what is happening then thats not a bad thing , because if things remained unchecked we will lose our rainforests , our air quality will be poorer , we would lose animal species and generally speaking the planet would be a lot worse off . So ignoring all climate change arguments , dont you think it would be better if we gave a bit more consideration to the planet and were a bit more thoughtful ?
I happen to agree with the climate change theories , you cannot keep pumping huge amounts of pollutants into the atmosphere without a consequence . I read a study about direct sunlight , in some parts of the world its considerably less than it was , this is caused by particulates in the atmosphere around which water would seed and so high level cloud is formed , similarly jet engines from aircraft add to this as proven by 9/11 when planes were grounded the skies were clearer and temperatures moved up . If these particulates and aircraft vapour trails were not in the atmosphere temperatures would be higher .
As regards hurricanes I think you need to look at the El Nino effect , so the US and the carribbean has done okay the last 2 years or so but if you cast your eye over to the asian side of the pacific they have seen more than their fair share of typhoons .
Its all boring stuff to a lot of people .... but it wont do humans any harm to have less selfish motivations and put some more considerate political policies on the table .

97% of peer reviewed climatologists not only believe that global warming exists, the further support the notion that man contributes to it. Turns out that the oceans aren't absorbing the excess carbon that we are releasing through fossil fuel burning. Turns out that plants aren't absorbing and using it either because we are deforesting and destroying ecosystems.

In other words, scientists who are qualified to offer a scientific opinion are telling us that global warming is a problem. They outnumber the dissenters by a whopping 32 to 1. If human 4% were elimated the temperature would change by only 1/2 degree.
